Chevrolet will show a new compact SUV at the Delhi motor show next month

Chevrolet is readying a compact SUV to rival the Ford EcoSport. The model will be unveiled at the Delhi motor show next month.

The sub-four-metre SUV is likely to be based on GM’s Gamma II plaform that underpins the Chevrolet Spark, Aveo, Trax and Vauxhall Mokka. The model is understood to be powered by a 77bhp 1.3-litre diesel engine.

The new model will be targeted primarily at the Asian market. Last month GM confirmed Chevrolet’s European operations were to close in order for the firm to focus on its Vauxhall and Opel brands. A Vauxhall spokesman said there were no plans for it to be introduced under the Vauxhall or Opel banner.

A facelifted version of the Chevrolet Spark, badged locally as Beat, will also premiere at the show, featuring new bumpers and lights.

The Trax is based on the Mokka which shares the Corsa platform, which in turn is a rival to the Fiesta upon which this EcoSport is based. So isn't the Trax already a rival to the EcoSport?

It is in most markets, but it is also longer than the competition ( it's around 4.30m long, i think. Almost as long as a Qashqai ). India taxes cars longer than 4 meters more severely, and according to this article this car was created to fit that legislation.
