Lamborghini sold an all-time annual high of 3245 vehicles in 2015 and is recruiting extra staff as it prepares for production of its next new model, the Urus SUV.
As revealed to Autocar by company chief Stephan Winkelmann in December 2015, global sales of the Huracán and Lamborghini Aventador comfortably eclipsed the previous benchmark of 2530 sales, set in 2014.
The company now employs 1300 people, and more than 150 assembly line workers, technicians and highly qualified specialists have already been taken on as the Sant’Agata Bolognese facility gears up for Urus production in 2018.
The growth trend is destined to continue during this year. Since January, 30 new production line workers have joined the company.
Other new hirings during the year will include technicians working in Lamborghini’s quality, research and development, purchasing, industrial and project management divisions, as well as technical production staff.
The production site is set to double in size – from the existing 80,000 square metres to 150,000 square metres in order to accommodate the new Urus line - and in total 500 further new staff will be taken on.
Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO said: “Lamborghini is experiencing strong, steady growth in sales and also in its workforce. We are getting ready for groundbreaking changes with the introduction of our third model in 2018, which points to stable, sustainable growth for our company.

When production of the new SUV is up and running in 2018, Winkelmann anticipates that Lamborghini will “more or less double the volumes that we have now, to between 5000 and 6000 cars”.
