Audi TT RS: pics, info and noise

These are the first official teaser images of Audi's new TT RS, the model that will reunite the German brand with the five-cylinder turbocharged engine format made famous by its original 1980s Quattro.

A number of black and white pictures of the whole car have been leaked onto the internet.

The range-topping TT is fitted with a new 2.5-litre powerplant that uses the architecture of the firm’s V10 motor. A single turbocharger helps to create around 340bhp and 330lb ft of torque, and the engine uses direct injection to improve fuel efficiency.

The company has also released this sound clip of the Audi TT RS, in which it certainly appears to resemble a mid-1980s Quattro.

The TT RS will be able to crack 0-62mph in about 4.5sec and reach a limited top speed of 155mph. But buyers can also opt to have the top speed raised to around 175mph.

The car uses quattro four-wheel drive, with a six-speed manual gearbox. It’s unlikely that Audi’s seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission will be offered, as it cannot cope with the torque.

An uprated chassis includes new springs and dampers and thicker anti-roll bars. The brakes are bigger, too.Styling upgrades include a deeper front bumper with R8-style intakes and a fixed rear spoiler instead of the regular TT’s speed-dependent item.

The TT RS coupé goes on sale next week, and a roadster is due later this year. Audi UK has not fixed the price yet, but expect the hottest TT yet to cost around £43,000.
