Aston Martin's Veyron rival to get 700bhp and 520lb ft

These are the latest pictures of the Aston Martin One-77. They reveal the million-pound hypercar’s extreme aerodynamics in detail for the first time.

“It’s not all about power or being in a performance race with Bugatti,” said Aston boss Ulrich Bez. “It’s a fabulous, hand-built car that’s the pinnacle of what Aston Martin can achieve.”

Aston’s most expensive ever car does cost much the same as a Bugatti Veyron, though, at £1.02m (plus tax). >> See more pictures of the Aston One-77

Despite the Aston One-77’s apparent length, at 4576mm long it’s actually shorter than the 4700mm DB9. It is also lower than a Vantage, at 1223mm, and a whopping 1990m wide.

“Although the One-77 is two metres wide, it’s still got a lot of form in the shape, the waist is in and out, which gives it a very dynamic and elegant look,” said Bez.

The ultra-exclusive One-77 weighs just 1500kg, thanks to a carbonfibre tub, which will be built by an as-yet-unspecified Midlands contractor. Body panels will be handmade from aluminium.

Under the bonnet is a 7.0-litre powerplant, a development of Aston’s 6.0-litre V12. “The engine is a magnificent piece of work,” said Bez. “It looks like art, like a watch where you can see all the parts.” He added that the car would offer around 700bhp and 520lb ft, but exact outputs haven’t been decided.

That means Aston can’t confirm the One-77’s top speed, but Bez said 200mph would be “unavoidable”.

The Aston One-77 gets an all-new dashboard, with electronic instruments that will be used in the replacements for the DB9 and Vantage.

Owners will be able to specify bespoke seats and trim options such as wood and leather.Contrary to some reports, Aston has not yet sold any One-77s. It has had a hundred “expressions of interest” from potential buyers - but no money has changed hands for any of the examples.

Only four or five of the cars will be sold in the UK, with a maximum of six allocated to the US.
