Hans Stuck, get well soon

Steve Sutcliffe
I was shocked and saddened to hear that my new best mate, Hans Stuck, was rushed to hospital on Saturday, having been complaining of headaches and dizziness at a VW event at his beloved Nurburgring.

It seems that the great man wasn’t quite as well as he thought after a hefty shunt in an R8 at the ‘Ring a few weeks back.

Immediately afterwards he felt fine, apparently, but since then he’s not been so good. And on Saturday he was taken to hospital and had an operation to remove a blood clot that had formed in his brain.

He’s now out of intensive care and is "stable”, according to the doctors.

The very best wishes from all of us at Autocar, Hans. My life hasn’t been quite the same since you showed me the difference between the way “the boys and the girls” drive around the Nurburgring just a few short weeks ago.

Bad news indeed.  Hope Hans makes a full and speedy recovery.

Best wishes to Hans, met him at a BMW do a few years ago, very pleasant man, great great driver...

Just shows that accidents can have affects even a few days after the event, always best to get properly checked out - no one is indestructible!

If he's out of intensive care then he must be on the mend. He's only about 59 so this shouldn't take too much out of him.

Hopefully Hans is on the mend and will be back behind the wheel shortly.A true legend.

He seems like a very nice man having seen your video, Steve. The world needs more people like him so let's wish him a full and speedy recovery. Then Autocar should employ him as your Nurburgring Correspondent.

Wish Hans a full and speedy recovery. I enjoyed reading that piece.

Brain injuries can be very insidious. As I was reading about Hans feeling ok, just after the shunt and oblivious to the blood clot forming oh his brain, I got reminded of the actress, Natasha Richardson (Liam Neeson's wife), who fell over and bumped her while skiing last year. She said she felt fine immediately afterwards, but within an hour or so she went into a coma and shortly after she died.

Best wishes.

Take it easy Hans, best wishes.

Best thoughts go out to Hans.

Makes a change to read comments that are all in agreement on an Autocar blog, no one picking faults or negative about anything.

Shows perhaps the respect petrolheads have for the man!

Just got this from Hans HQ in Germany;

"We received a message from Hans this morning.

Apparently the follow-up examination was okay, he’s on the mend and should (hopefully) be out of hospital on Monday. It seems he will make a full recovery."

Very good news I'd say

All the best H-J.     Just think of those great drives you regularly gave us in the 962 and you'll be on the road to recovery all the faster.

Great news that he's on the mend.

Hans, you're a legend.
