Cars may be getting greener but they won’t become boring, according to Ford. We’re all going to be driving the cars we want to – even in 2050, when they will be putting out around 40g/km, according to the company’s chief engineer Richard Parry-Jones.

Even before then, he reckons, technology can actually make cars a lot more interesting. So the 2020 Ford Fiesta will be a light, three-cylinder petrol turbo, with a six-speed DSG box with exquisite ride and handling.
