Six months ago I wrote a blog about seeing a vintage, British registered Rolls-Royce mouldering on somebody's driveway in South Carolina during a trip to the US-of-A to drive a BMW X5.

Fast forward to now and I'm in LA driving the new Lexus IS-F and, due to a navigational cock-up, I need to head into a quiet residential area to perform a quick U-turn. And knock me down with the proverbial brick-filled pillow if I don't find another semi-derelict ex-pat Roller. This fine 'seventies Shadow is sitting on somebody's drive a couple of miles from the airport: right-hand drive, British registered (under the California plate), and like the Carolinian example, showing every sign of not having turned a wheel for a couple of years.

I've been reliably informed that there are approximately 300,000 Brits living in and around LA, so I suppose somebody might have shipped it out for sentimental reasons. But now I'm wondering if all of America is equally infested with rotting British luxury barges.

Other nominations, or attempted explanations, gratefully accepted.
