Lamborghini's entry-level Gallardo gets a performance derivative

Standard Lamborghini Gallardo not ‘bling’ enough for you? Then Lamborghini has the answer with the limited-edition Gallardo SE. Just 250 examples of this special edition 520bhp version of the entry-level Lambo will be sold, with deliveries beginning in September and a price tag of around £132,000.

The shy need not apply, this Gallardo features a two-tone paintjob with the base colour (grey, white, yellow, orange or green) augmented by black roof, engine cover, door mirrors and front and rear spoilers. Tinted rear lights, a new alloy wheel design and grey or yellow painted brake callipers complete the look.

But it’s not just a cosmetic change. An extra 28bhp and shorter ratios for the first five gears - and a shift-optimising ‘Thrust’ mode for the optional e-gear version – cut the 0-62mph dash to 4.0sec and raise top speed to 196mph (4.2sec and 192mph for the standard car). There’s firmer sport suspension, new Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres and revised steering for a sharper drive, too.

Inside the two-tone theme continues with body-coloured piping and stitching for the black leather, a numbered plaque on the dash and Lamborghini shields embossed in the head rests. Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera and a cover.

The SE previews an expansion to the Gallardo range that begins with the official debut of the Gallardo Roadster at the Frankfurt motor show in September. The neat cabrio boasts an electric canvas top, and there are rumours of a limited-edition version of the dramatic Concept Show car in future plans. A still-more extreme, rear-driven 550bhp lightweight Gallardo is also expected to follow to take the fight to Ferrari’s new F430.
