A fuel-sipping BlueMotion version of the Volkswagen Golf estate will be offered for the first time in its latest generation.
The new VW Golf estate, revealed at the Geneva motor show, will go on sale in the UK in July with the first deliveries expected in October.
The BlueMotion model is powered by a 108bhp 1.6 TDI engine to give a combined economy of 85.6mpg and CO2 emissions of just 87g/km.
The same engine will also be offered in the Golf hatchback, where it has figures of 88.3mpg and 85g/km. The engine range of the Golf estate will otherwise mirror the hatchback.
The Golf estate is 307mm longer than the hatchback at 4562mm. The two share the same wheelbase at 2637mm. Boot capacity is 605 litres with the rear seats up, and 1620 litres with the seats down.
Thanks to being underpinned by the new VW Group MQB platform, the new Golf estate weighs 105kg less than its predecessor.
An all-wheel-drive 4Motion version of the Golf estate is also on show at the Geneva motor show, but this is not planned for sale in the UK as it will not be made in right-hand drive.
