New pictures reveal the Honda Urban SUV ahead of its debut at the Detroit show

Honda will unveil its Urban SUV concept car at the Detroit motor show that will become a new baby SUV. Seen here in images leaked on the internet ahead of its premiere, the production version of the Urban SUV Concept is expected to go on sale within the next three years.

The new car, which is widely tipped to be based on the Honda Jazz, will rival the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Mokka. It is likely to be spun off the new Honda Jazz platform, which is due in the next two years, and with which the firm is targeting sales of up to 400,000 units a year in America and Europe.

Unlike with previous generations of the car, Honda is giving its global regions freedom to develop the Jazz to suit local tastes. The European version is expected to be built at the firm's base in Swindon.

The baby SUV is a key part of Honda president Takanobu Ito's ambitious plans to double global sales to six million cars a year by 2017.

Being desperately

Being desperately practical......

If this has a larger interior volume than the Jazz on which it is based and it is fitted with Honda's clever rear seats, this could be one serious load lugger!

Honda clearly have realise that they need to produce a couple of "me too" models to get themselves back in the game but they have the potential now to show what they can do and make the best in class.

Actually, it was...

Toyota who first launched a supermini-based SUV (B-SUV, in recent years,) to the European market in mid-2009 with the Urban Cruiser.

I agree Honda appears to be

I agree Honda appears to be playing catch-up, but if they get the styling right, they could have a great product on their hands. I think the current Jazz looks great (probably the best looking car of the entire Honda range in the UK), and this could be the product to demonstrate that Honda have got their design flair back!

Honda Range

Sorry I was laughing at your comment

"probably the best looking car of the entire Honda range in the UK"

It doesnt have a lot of in house competition with the other 3 models Honda sells..... the Civic, CR-Z, and CR-V....oh wait are they still making the Accord? I haven't seen one of them in years! Honda really need to get their act together, Honda's used to be cool. Remember the HR-V, CR-X, NSX, Prelude, Intergra... where did it all go wrong?
