Honda maps out the look of its baby Jazz SUV with a concept unveiled in Detroit

Honda has previewed plans for a new Jazz-based SUV with this Urban SUV Concept at the Detroit motor show.

Honda has already confirmed a production version, which closely follows the sleek style of this concept. It will be introduced in Japan late this year, the US in early 2014 and Europe later in 2014.

Underpinning the 4300mm-long Urban SUV Concept is the next-generation Jazz’s platform. A third generation of the standard Honda Jazz supermini will be launched in 2014 with the new underpinnings. A saloon is also planned based on this platform and will be targeted at emerging markets.

Each of Honda’s global regions is being given autonomy to tune it to suit local conditions. Both the exterior and interior styling are also likely to differ slightly between global markets.

Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has previously described the global small car platform as strategically very important to Honda’s bid to boost sales from about four million units to seven million annually by 2017. He called the Jazz SUV a “younger brother” to the new CR-V.

Much Better!

Looks far nicer than the new CR-V, which looks like a cheap Chinese copy of a Volvo XC60.

Impressive new design!

4.3 meters is hardly a small

4.3 meters is hardly a small SUV, especially considering that is exactly the same size as the current Civic!

If they get the mechanical package right with this car be it with both efficient petrol engine and the new 1.6 diesel, this could be Honda's Qashqai.  It wouldn't surprise me if sales overtook the Civic in this country at least.

Engine

Paired up with a nice small Turbo Petrol engine (they need to buy or build that too) it could just be the best Honda there is.

All they have to do is wake up and build it now

I can't make up my mind on this "young brother" of the CRV. The article does not give away details of the "underpinnings" and engines that Honda's gonna give this City-SUV, but I couldn't agree with you more that:

Honda needs to wake up!

Or we can just move on.
