What do you do if you’re an F1 legend running late? Drive, of course.

A taxi driver’s been revealing how Michael Schumacher took over the wheel of his German Opel minicab and drove at break-neck speed to catch his plane.

Fed up with slow driver Tuncer Yilbaz, the motor racing superstar politely asked if he could have a drive, before hurtling through traffic with his family in the back, to get his flight back to Switzerland.

Turkish cabby Yilbaz told reporters how Schumacher “drove at full-throttle around corners and overtook in unbelievable places. He passed everything with elegance and grace, like the professional he is.”

The impromptu passenger ride happened in Coburg, Germany, where Schumacher and family had bought a new puppy. They were on their way to the airport when their taxi got stuck in traffic.

The taxi driver wouldn’t reveal what speeds the seven-times F1 champ hit, but did say that Schuey tipped him 100 euros and gave him an autograph for his troubles. “It was the turbocharged experience of my lifetime”, he said.
