This bizarre-looking creation is the McRae Enduro, the brainchild of Colin's little brother Alister and father Jim.

The Enduro is a desert racer, designed to sit below the top-level 'T1' racers, but above regular souped-up Land Cruisers in pace. It will also form the basis of a new one-make series.

To keep costs down, the Enduro uses many stock production car components.

Power comes from a 2.7-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine, as used in the Land Rover Discovery, Peugeot 407 and Citroen C6, and here producing 237bhp and 384lb ft.

The gearbox will be a ZF six-speeder, mated to a four-wheel-drive system.

The chassis, however, is a bespoke tubular steel spaceframe that meets FIA regulations. There's also a standard full rollcage.

With a predicted weight of 1650kg, the Enduro should be quick. On-event advice from the McRaes will also assist buyers in their quest for rallying glory.

The all-in price is expected to be under €150,000, or around £100,000. The first cars should be available before the end of 2007.
