The new Volkswagen Golf GTI cabriolet is priced from £29,310 when mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and £30,610 in seven-speed DSG guise.

The hot new cabriolet uses the same 207bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine as the standard GTI model. The sprint from standstill to 62mph takes 7.3 seconds with either gearbox, while top speed is achieved at 146mph and 147mph for DSG and manual-transmission cars respectively.

Combined fuel consumption figures are 37.2mpg (36.7mpg with the DSG 'box), with CO2 emissions of 177g/km (180g/km DSG).The cabriolet carries over the hatchback GTI’s external features, including 18-inch alloys, red-outlined front grille and a rear diffuser flanked by a chrome tailpipe on either side.In the cabin, seats are finished with cloth upholstery with leather available as an option. The multifunction steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever gaiter are all wrapped in leather and carry the familiar contrast red stitching. As with the standard Golf cabrio, the electrically operated roof takes 9.5 seconds to fold away and can be operated at speeds up to 18mph.The Golf GTI cabriolet is available to order now and deliveries are expected to begin in July.

The profit margin on these Must be enormous, I wonder how much more this costs to manufacture against a basic 1.4 golf.
