I’ve always had a soft spot for Smart. Its two core strengths, most obvious in the ForTwo, but also present in the Roadster are the compact size and the polish of its interiors.

That’s not to say that the materials are straight out of a Mercedes, but the neat design and clever choice of finishes has always made its interiors feel a class above those of its small car competitors.

The new Forspeed concept looks to have kept most of the compactness, although at first sight it seems to have a little more sprawl than the ForTwo (maybe due to the lack of a roof), but the most obvious thing is that Merc has realised that it still has to deliver on the interior.

It’s rare that you see a city car concept with this kind of flair.
