Bosch marks the 10th anniversary of its ESP system

Yesterday Bosch celebrated the tenth anniversary of its Electronic Stability Program (ESP) technology. The system prevents a car from skidding under intense conditions by braking individual wheels to counter over/understeer and maintain stability.

Recently Autocar concluded that if ESP were to be fitted as standard to all new cars, up to 20,000 lives could be saved on European roads between now and 2010. Research by Volkswagen also revealed a 35 per cent reduction in fatal accidents in cars that were ESP-equipped.

At a reception marking Bosch’s milestone, Prince Michael of Kent agreed congratulating Bosch for the encouraging increase in the installation rate for ESP on new cars: from 20 per cent to 29 per cent in the past 12 months.
