Kia says some of its Soul-based concepts could yet see production

The new Kia Soul could spawn a family of vehicles, according to the head of Kia's California design studio Tom Kearns.

Kia showed convertible, pick-up and sport three-door concept versions of the last Soul, but none of them made production.

However Kearns, speaking to Autocar at the New York motor show, hinted that "one or two of those concepts remained very serious proposals" for how Kia could expand the Soul line-up.

"But I can't say which ones," added Kearns, although he hinted a convertible previewed by the Soul'ster concept would likely be the biggest commercial success.

"Kia has a good track record of making a lot of concepts we come out with. The Soul concepts have already shown there are more possibilities for the car."

Kia's yellow Soul

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but Kia's Soul never struck me as beautiful and this garish yellow colour certainly doesn't help its cause.
