Cosworth has tuned the Subaru Impreza STI, it has been announced.

Although no exact details have been released, the car is described as "a special one-off project" between Subaru Uk and Cosworth.

An official statement described the car as having "enhanced the performance, handling and styling" and went on to say the the car "will raise the bar for all-wheel-drive, high-performance motoring".

The car will go on sale in March, with details on performance, specification and pricing being released closer to that date.

This is getting childish. The figures I quoted were directly from the Subaru UK website. A WRX PPP is quoted, as tested by ProDrive, as a 0-60 of 4.8s.

I can assure you that a WRX can go quicker than 140.

Yes, I'm sure you would. Unfortunately I'm now an ex-Subaru owner, who tried the new STi and was convinced to buy something else a tad more up market, more GT than WRC.

Absolute nonsense. ..... Do you honestly think the old WRX would outrun the new STi?

Good point, but let's consider the evidence (taken from Subaru's website today).

New STi, 0-62 is 5.2 seconds. An 03 plate STi does it in 5.2 (Prodrive figures). That's for a car with 0.5l less displacement, and 35bhp less power!

An 03 plate WRX does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, an hatch back one is quoted as 6.5 which is, as you put it, slow! So an off-the-shelf 03 WRX is well adhead of the current WRX, and isn't far behind a new STi. Certainly the STi isn't as far in front as it should be!

But take an 03 plate WRX with PPP and it's 0-60 is 4.8 seconds! Now that is quicker than the current STi. In fact, you've got to opt for the 330s before the STi would be a match. That's a car which has 65 bhp more grunt.

So the current crop of Imprezas, while not being slow, aren't as quick either. They're unimpressive Imprezas!

(For clarity some figures quoted are 0-60 and others 0-62, but that's what provided and there will minimal difference between them).

Still more rubbish. You obvously didn't read the attachment in my last post.

In any case see below. Its an extract from Top Gear's lap times. The new STi at the top, is 2 secs a lap quicker than the old STi. Its also quicker than the EVO 10 and Focus RS. Unimpressive eh.

Subaru WRX Sti 1.28.2
BMW X5M 1.28.2
Mitsubishi Evo X 1.28.22
Dodge Viper SRT-10 1.28.5
MG SV 1.28.6
Porsche 911 Carrera S 1.28.9
Mitsubishi Evo VIII 1.28.9
BMW Alpina Z8 1.29.0
Mercedes CL65 1.29.0
Ford Focus RS 1.29.3
VW Golf W12 1.29.6
Alfa 3.7 GTA Autodelta 1.30.0
Ford Shelby GT500 1.30.0
Subaru Impreza STI 1.30.1

(For clarity, the 0-60 time of the new STi is 4.8 secs. Also the WRX is lower geared than an STi, thus it can accelerate to 60 very quickly, but not to 100 and beyond where the horsepower takes over. Newer cars are heavier than older models due to safety reasons. Weight has an effect on acceleration but not top speed. The WRX will also run out of steam before an STi. For clarity, an WRX will do around 140, the STi is limited to 155)

Also, from your figures, an old WRX PPP is faster than an old STi.... strange then anyone paid more for a slower car. Get your facts right.

Would like to know what 'impressive' car it is that you drive.
