Covers come off Seat's stunning second-gen IBE at the Paris motor show

Seat has unveiled its second-generation IBE concept car at the Paris motor show.

The IBE is an electric vehicle whose styling is said to give clear hints to the looks of the next Leon.

It is a full 20cm shorter than even an Ibiza, at just 3.83m and was originally shown at Geneva earlier this year, but that concept lacked full running gear or an interior.

The Paris car has a 101bhp, front-mounted electric motor, and lithium-ion batteries that slot under the boot floor at the rear. It has 148lb ft of torque from zero revs, enough to take the 1100kg IBE from 0-31mph in 6.6sec and to 62mph in 9.7sec.

Battery range for the car is set at around 130km (81 miles); Seat claims this is “ample” for most daily commutes.

The IBE’s interior showcases a number of communication technologies; its owner can check on the car’s status using a smartphone app, and ‘drag’ songs from devices such as an iPhone on to the car’s built-in audio system.

Seat president James Muir said, “The IBE leaves no room for doubt: the future will find Seat offering the most innovative, bold and youthful cars in their respective segments, without sacrificing anything in terms of usability.”

Re: Seat's latest IBE concept shown

The most successful thing about this (generally excellent) design concept is the cut line above the rear arches which leads into the spoiler and wraps around the whole rear end of the car. It makes much more sense than the random lines down the side of the Ibiza. Big improvement.

It's a relief to see that at least one manufacturer from the VAG empire is capable of producing interesting looking cars.

Best looking Seat I have ever seen. How did they manage to come up with this , after the woeful stuff they normally give us !

Like what people are never happy too me Seat have a lovely stylish and fdunky range . The Ibiza is a lovely and very stylish car , the Leon the same , the Altea is a funky MPV that can be had in normal or XL asVW would not allow them too have a 7seater at the mo wonder why maybe people buying VWs would have bought the XL instead . The Exeo is a good car even iff it is based on an old Audi A4 it has a funky dash do the one out off the A4coupe so to me Seat have a fairly decent range and they are all well built and reliable as well plus have there own unuique character too . The Taledo was funky too still is kinda a tall hatchbach with a boot .

It's size must also be a statement, a signification of downsizing?
