Oil burning RAV4 cleaner and more powerful

Toyota’s new RAV4 will be available from September, with the 2.2-litre D4-D 150 engine and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions from the Avensis added to the range.

The manual version produces emission figures of 154g/km – 11 per cent less than the current 2.2 diesel unit - while power output is up from 134bhp to 148bhp.

The six-speed auto is the first self-shifter seen in a diesel RAV4, and has a sports mode for more aggressive driving. There is also a sequential manual mode called Sports Direct Shift, which includes a blipping feature.

The new range includes the reintroduction of a 2two-wheel-drive RAV4 with a two-litre petrol engine and six-speed manual gearbox, available only in XT-R trim, which includes leather, smart entry and start, heated front seats and electrically adjustable driver’s seat.

Exterior revisions include a new front bumper, grille, headlights, front fog lights, rear light clusters, and fresh 17-inch alloys. Standard equipment features across the range will include air-conditioning, Bluetooth, automatic wipers and headlights, six-CD changer, MP3 input and heated retractable mirrors.
