A round-the-world relay cavalcade of Ferraris, involving up to 10,000 owners and their cars, was announced at Detroit yesterday. It is being planned by Ferrari as a way of celebrating its 60th anniversary between January and June this year.

Scheduled to start at the company’s HQ, the cavalcade will visit all continents of the world. It will come to the UK for 'three or four days' Britain, and will even traverse Australia and South America. A commemorative baton, eventually bearing 60 different symbols (one for each year) will travel with the cavalcade.

Ferrari bosses have decided the celebration will be 'a customer event' and rejected the idea of launching a special 60th anniversary model, though it will sell 60 specially painted, badged and numbered versions of the 612 Scaglietti during the year. This model’s special look will be revealed in about a fortnight.
