This racing version of the upcoming Toyota FT-86 will compete in a four-hour endurance race at the Nürburgring today.
The svelte, bewinged sports car, pictured here in testing yesterday, has been regularly seen at the German circuit during the summer, and will race in the long-distance DMV 250-Meilen-Rennen. The race is part of the VLN series, which several manufacturers use for car development.
Japanese test pilots Masahiko Kagayama and Minoru Takaki will drive the FT-86, which is entered and prepared by Gazoo Racing.
The car is entered in the 1750-2000cc specials class, which suggests it is powered by the Subaru-derived 2.0-litre, 16-valve flat-four that will be fitted when the Toyota goes into production. The engine is expected to produce around 200bhp, although there is no information on whether the race car features performance upgrades.
Although the standard road version won't be fitted with that large rear wing, Toyota is expected to offer it as an optional aerodynamic modification.
