Daimler extends the contract of its CEO until the end of 2013

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche will stay in his role until the end of 2013 after his contract was extended by the company.

Zetsche’s future at the company was confirmed after a board meeting yesterday, although his future had been in doubt following the recent loss of his wife and the fact he turns 60 in May.

But a Mercedes source told Reuters that his contract could even be extended beyond 2013, saying this deal wasn’t the end for Zetsche as his age wasn’t an issue internally.

Wolfgang Bernhard is the man Zetsche is grooming to be his replacement and was also confirmed yesterday as part of Daimlers’ six-strong board.

Zetsche to stay as Daimler CEO

I wonder if this means the end of Maybach? I recall Dieter Zetsche indicating not long ago that he didn't think there would be a successor to the current model. I guess if he's staying on at Daimler he won't give the go-ahead for a replacement.
