New 2+1 Nissan Nuvu microcar to be unveiled at Paris

Nissan will unveil an electric 2+1 concept car at the Paris show next month. Named the Nuvu, the concept is just three metres long and features a roof covered in leaf-shaped solar panels that power the electric motor. Nissan’s general manager for product strategy and planning division, Francois Bancon, maintains that the Nuvu “is a concept car, for sure, but it is an entirely credible vehicle”.He added, “It’s light, clean and easy to drive. It is practical and a sensible size, yet it also embodies an element of fun.”The Toyota iQ (pictured) is the only car that would compete with the Nuvu in terms of exterior dimensions and interior practicality. But while the iQ has four seats, the Nuvu has two main seats and one occasional seat, leaving room for a luggage area that Nissan claims provides “sufficient space for a typical supermarket or shopping expedition”.The Nuvu’s external dimensions are similar to those of the iQ, with a 1980mm wheelbase. But the Nissan does gain a substantial 200mm in height, measuring 1700mm, and is just 1550mm wide next to the iQ’s 1680mm. More details will be released when we get our first look at the Nuvu at the Paris show on 2 October.
