Mini designer to McLaren

Frank Stephenson, who designed the modern-day Mini, has been confirmed as McLaren's new design chief.
A McLaren spokesman told Autocar: "McLaren Automotive is pleased to confirm that Frank Stephenson will shortly join the company as design director." More details will be released after Stephenson takes up office.
The appointment indicates that McLaren is working on other road cars beyond its new supercar - the design of which has already been signed off.
Stephenson's previous work includes 11 years at BMW where he designed the X5 and the modern Mini. He then moved to Fiat in 2002, where he designed the new Fiat 500 and Fiat Bravo. His formidable CV also includes a spell 'overseeing' Pininfarina's work on the Ferrari F430 and stunning Maserati MC12 supercars.
Most recently, Stevenson was Alfa Romeo's styling chief, a position he left in March this year. His new appointment at McLaren comes at an exciting time for the Woking-based outfit, whose association with Mercedes-Benz recently ended.
