From the way it looks to the way it drives to the way it is priced, this new Five, codename E39, has an air of genius behind it that seems so obvious in the flesh. Yet in truth this car has not been created in the last four or five years; it is the pinnacle of a decade of fine work that began with the E12 in the ’70s and was nurtured through the ’80s with the E28 and E34 variants.
