Road Test

Porsche 911 996

Test date 01 October 1997  Price as tested £65,000

As motoring legends go, the Porsche 911 is surely the grandaddy of them all. It has been around for more than 30 years now, yet still it sits at the sharp end of sports car evolution. It is, some might say, the car that refuses to die. But that’s not Porsche’s fault. In the late ’70s, Weissach produced the 928 – as a replacement for the 911. But the customer thought otherwise, and since then the 911 has easily outlasted its supposed successor. And now here we have yet another all-new incarnation.
