12 March 2010

European car production figures in 2009 fell to their lowest level in 14 years.

A total of 13.4 million units were produced, a drop of 13 per cent on 2008, according to figures released by ACEA.

The decrease was the sharpest recorded since 1993, when car production in the EU fell by 15.1 per cent.

ACEA’s report said that Germany remained as Europe’s largest car producer – building 5.2 million units. Spain overtook France to become Europe’s second largest car maker, producing 2.2m units. The UK ranked fourth.
