British director is reported to be working on documentary-style film

British film director Asif Kapadia has started work on a film about the life of triple Formula One world champion Ayrton Senna, according to industry publication Variety.

The film will be produced by Working Title Films, the studio behind hits such as Smokin' Aces and Frost/Nixon, as well as several of the Coen brothers' films.

Ever since Senna's death in a crash at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix there have been rumours that his life story would be turned into a film, but despite several pilot projects, none has been released.

The film is reported to be being made using original footage, including some that has never been seen before, rather than using actors to play characters.

Kapadia's project is reported to have the full co-operation of the Senna family and the Ayrton Senna Foundation.
