The revitalised Lagonda brand will launch a luxury SUV in 2012, according to Aston Martin Lagonda boss Dr Ulrich Bez. The company is also planning to show a concept car signalling its future direction as early as the Geneva show next year.
Speaking at today's Paris show he outlined plans for bringing Lagonda back and stated that there were no plans for a Lagona badge to be attached to the forthcoming Rapide saloon. 'The Rapide will only be an Aston Martin' he said 'it will be a sports car and not a limo. A Lagonda will be different. There won't ever be an Aston SUV but it fits Lagonda.'
Work has already started on the new Lagonda SUV, signalled by the appointment of Dave King, one of the company's top engineers, as technical director of the restarted brand.
Meanwhile Bez also stated that he plans Lagonda to be more widely available than Aston, with outlets in around 100 countries. Currently Aston only sell cars in 32 countries.
