Roush to make hydrogen vehicles

Roush Technologies, best known for its collaboration with Ford and its versions of the Mustang, has signed an agreement to make hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles.
The agreement will see ITM Power PLC, a fuel-cell development company, produce a hydrogen refuelling station that that allows vehicle owners to generate their own supplies, whilst Roush Technologies will adapt existing internal combustion vehicles to run off the zero-emission fuel.
The project’s goal is to produce working hydrogen vehicles and have them on the road ‘within months’. To start with the two companies will work solely on commercial vehicles, but if it does result in a usable hydrogen fuelling station and propulsion system then it could transfer to road cars.
Jim Heathcote, CEO of ITM Power, said, “This is a significant co-operative between two companies who are committed to bringing practical hydrogen power into the automotive market place. Whilst it initially involves the commercial vehicle sector, it will demonstrate the wider potential of hydrogen technology to help cut CO2.”
