Anyone wondering which replacement tyres to fit to their new car need wonder no longer this week; Autocar has carried out one of its comprehensive tyre tests, pitting the most reputed tyres on the market against each in other in tests of outright grip, braking and aquaplaning, and you can read the results today in Autocar magazine.

The Tyre Test 2007 was conducted at the Contidrom, near Hannover in Germany – arguably the world’s foremost tyre testing facility. We stacked six tyres up for comparison: Continental’s ContiSport Contact 3, Pirelli’s P-Zero Nero & Rosso, Bridgestone’s Potenza RE050A, Michelin’s Pilot Sport and Goodyear’s Eagle F1. This year’s tyre test was sponsored by internet tyre retailer BlackCircles.com, through whom all of the tyres in the test (barring the imported Dunlop Direzza track tyre) can be bought.
