Rapid expansion is set to be curtailed after the launch of Countryman, Coupe and Roadster models

Mini’s rapid expansion is expected to be curtailed after its new Countryman, Coupe and Roadster models hit UK showrooms later this year.

These three cars will bring Mini’s current range up to six different models, and Mini UK’s general manager Jochen Goller has said that although the firm is constantly evaluating new concepts, it has no immediate to expand the range further.

“We’re permanently looking at new concepts,” Goller told Autocar. “Although there’s nothing to say at the minute.”

Mini revealed the Countryman hatchback yesterday, and Goller believes the car is in keeping with the ideals of the Mini brand.

“When you drive it, hopefully you’ll see its fun to drive with traditional Mini handling,” he said “The iconic shape is still there, too. We want to build on Mini’s success and this sits within the brand. I’m happy with it.”

Goller feels the Countryman will help Mini retain some of its customers who leave the brand looking for cars with more space.

“Mini buyers are very loyal – they love the brand, but have to leave it at some point as they need more space, so this counters that,” he said. “Also, the small SUV sector is rapidly expanding and we’re tapping into that.”

A top-of-the-range JCW Countryman could also make it into production, according to Goller.

“It’s definitely under consideration,” he said. “JCW has been a big success and we’ll look at doing it again here.”

Re: Mini to settle on six models

The good news is that Fablon still do a lovely range of stick on plastic wood we can use to make our Countryman look just like a 60's original.

And we can create our own Mokes by buying an angle grinder and taking the roof and doors off a Clubman, immediately improving its looks and avoiding the need to buy the optional pack with air con.

Is this new latest Mini bigger than the old Maxi ? - .

If they introduce a Maxi range it'll be bigger than a Routemaster

They never considered making just a small city car then?

What something to rival a Smart or C1/Aygo/107?

Nah, would never work...

P.S Excellent list, R32!
