Artega, the new German sports car company founded by ex-Maserati boss Karl-Heinz Kalbfell and ex-Aston designer Henrik Fisker, has begun work on a new factory to build its GT model. The car will go on sale in 2008, and although there’s no word on right hand drive yet Aretga is keen to get the GT on sale in the the UK. “Technically the car can be made as a right-hand drive, but the additional cost is immense,” said Kalbfell. “so it can only be a second step. But as England is the mother of all sports cars, we will try to bring the GT to the UK.” The GT will use a 3.6-litre rear-mounted V6 with 296bhp and will be made of carbonfibre over an alloy spaceframe, giving a weight of 1100kg. That means a 0-62mph time of under 5.0sec. In Europe Artega aims to sell the GT for around €75,000 (£53,000), making it significantly more expensive than a Porsche Cayman S. Production should start in May, with 170 units in the first year rising to 320 in 2009.
