Autocar has pitched the new GT-R against its ancestor, the R34 Skyline GT-R, and now we can bring you a hi-res gallery of the history of Nissan’s giant-killer.

The first Skyline arrived in the UK in 1997 but can trace its roots back to the first model in the fifties.

Skyline GT-Rs battled against Porsche 908s in 1964 but it was 1969 that the first GT-R, a four-door saloon, reached Japanese showrroms.

The most recent GT-R, the Spec V, was unveiled this year. Rivalling Porsche’s 911 Turbo, it has a 485bhp twin-turbo V6, with a boost control function, increasing the 434lb ft of torque by an extra 15lb ft at 3500-5000rpm.
