Kay Segler will take over from Wolfgang Armbrecht as Mini's boss

BMW’s Mini division has a new boss.

Kay Segler, who is currently boss of BMW’s M Division, will take over the Mini brand from Wolfgang Armbrecht.

Segler had previously run the Mini brand from 2004 to 2008, overseeing the introduction of the a new range of models based on the BMW-engineered R56 platform.

Segler will be performing a similar role over the next few years as Mini switches to building a new range of cars based on the brand new BMW front-wheel drive platform, which will also underpin a range of front-drive BMW models.

The all-new Mini range will kick off with a replacement for the three-door hatch, which is expected to arrive late next year. Meanwhile, Friedrich Nitschke, who currently leads Mini development in Munich, will take over from Segler as the boss of the M Division.
