Sales of eight models suspended in the US due to a sticking accelerator pedal fault

Toyota has suspended the sale of eight of its US built and sold models due to a sticking accelerator pedal fault.

Earlier this month, Toyota was forced to recall around 2.3million vehicles to correct the problem. Accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain Toyota models have stuck in a depressed position or returned slowly to idle.

Sales of the Rav4, Matrix, Corolla, Camry, Avalon, Highlander, Tundra and Sequoia have all been postponed and Toyota has also said it will shut down production lines on five of its North American production lines for one week from Monday to inspect conditions.

Toyota vice president Bob Carter said: “Helping ensure the safety of our customers and restoring confidence in Toyota are very important to our company.

“This action is necessary until a remedy is finalised. We're making every effort to address this situation for our customers as quickly as possible.

No hybrid, Lexus or Scion models have been affected by the problem or recall.

Re: Toyota freezes some US sales

Apparently the faulty part has also been found in European models, but Toyota hasn't yet decided what to do here (waiting for a lawsuit maybe?) - source: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/faulty-toyota-part-mad...

Ooooh - it never rains but it pours. They're not having a good time at the moment.

When will car Manufacturers ever learn? The bigger you get, the lower the quality, the more expensive the recalls and warranty issues.

Re: Toyota freezes some US sales

Toyota USA have known about this for the last THREE YEARS.

Only NOW have Toyota US decided to do something, no doubt influenced by the death of a Californian cop and his family, who were using a Lexus courtesy car when the accelerator pedal got stuck wide open!

IMO - there seemed to be a reluctance by Toyota to do anything when they should have except dismiss there was a problem in the first place!
