Brutningthorpe airfield in Leicestershire – a former RAF base now used among other things for vehicle testing – has won a court appeal against a Noise Abatement Notice.Despite Bruntingthorpe having been used for vehicle testing since 1973, and having a strictly enforced 98dB static/87.5dB drive-by noise limit, a new local resident had complained to the council about the noise. The council issued a Noise Abatement Notice that threatened to shut the whole site. That’s the same council that, in 1973, gave planning permission for the airfield to be used as a motor-testing facility.A district court judge decided that anyone moving into an area such as Bruntinghtorpe should expect some degree of noise, and that the activities there were well publicised. It’s especially good news for everyone here at Autocar: Bruntingthorpe is the venue for our annual 0-100-0 test.
