Vauxhall's fastest estate yet

Vauxhall has unveiled what it claims is the firm’s fastest ever estate: the Insignia VXR Sports Tourer.

Mechanically identical to the VXR hatch and saloon, it uses the same 321bhp turbocharged 2.8-litre V6 motor, which gives it a 0-60mph time of 6.0sec (0.2sec slower than the saloon) and a limited top speed of 155mph.

The Insignia VXR Sports Tourer gets 10mm lower suspension, Brembo brakes all round, four-wheel drive (a modified version of the system first used in Saab’s 9-3 Turbo X) and GM’s electronic limited-slip differential.

Inside, there are VXR Recaro seats and a VXR-branded steering wheel.

Vauxhall won’t reveal prices until the car goes on sale in the autumn, but expect it to cost around £31,500 — £1400 more than the saloon and hatch.

It’s aimed at cars such as the Audi S4 Avant and BMW 335i Touring M Sport.
