It’s not well known that Daihatsu was the first Japanese marque to export cars to the UK, the Compagno landing on these shores in 1964. Since then it has built a reputation for building sturdy if largely unimaginative affordable transport. The Sirion arrived as one of these in 1998 and the range was then broadened by the inclusion of models like the Rally 2, Rally 4 and 4trak, though these hatches were considerably more tepid than hot. The arrival of the new Sirion spells the end not only for these direct predecessors, but also the rather odd YRV.
