The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, set to go on sale in 2014, has been spotted testing.

This test mule, caught at the Nürburgring, is understood to be one of the first F-type R coupé test cars. The F-type R is expected to be the initial flagship model in the new F-type coupé range, which is expected to be revealed before the end of the year.

Power for the F-type R is reported to come from the latest 542bhp supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine that has been fitted to a number of recent performance Jaguars. Carbon-ceramic brakes also look set to be at least on the options list, given the fact that they’re fitted to this test car.

We've known for some time that a hot version of the F-type was on the development list at Jaguar, and that the car would attempt to invoke the spirit of the XKR-S GT. Engineers first experimented with the high-output V8 engines marked for use in the F-Type coupé when developing that car.

A standard version of the F-Type coupé was also recently caught testing, with our first images revealing the car to be almost identical to the original C-X16 concept shown by Jaguar.

Jaguar F-type

The Jaguar F-Type convertible provides direct competition to the 718 Boxster and the 911 Cabriolet, but can the big cat take a bite out of its Porsche rivals?

I think this loks so much better as a coupé, could be utterly brilliant.  Love those wheels too.

SamC, totally in agreement, the F-type convertible is a great looking car, but the coupe is even better looking.  Alloys look great!

We went to the nurburgring last week for a day out and sitting at a corner like Brunchen watching one car after another going round there covered in swirly grpahics and blocks of foam it didn't feel like they were that well hidden from the camera!

Love this car from Jag.  I personally always prefer a coupe to convertible model as you don’t get the sleek body line.  I expect this will be an epic car….wonder if they will do anything about the boot space as Topgear pointed out a few weeks ago

The soft-top is, apparently, a bit of a handful with a mere 489bhp, so this one should really sort the men from the boys.

Hope those 'ban the bomb' alloys are quietly discarded.

i think some might have already seen how it powers, horsepower figures are reminisent of project-7 of goodwood fame but for sure the exhaust decibles would be tamed. hardtop looks so much better
