Steve Morris, operations director, appointed managing director; Charles Morgan to remain "face of Morgan"

Charles Morgan has been replaced as the managing director of Morgan Motor Company, following a decision by board members and shareholders.

Taking his place is Steve Morris, who was previously the operations director at Morgan.

"Charles Morgan will concentrate on his vital role as the face of Morgan internationally, promoting the brand and selling the company's products worldwide," a Morgan statement read.

A Morgan spokesperson added, "It gives Charles the time to do what he needs to do on an international level, and it felt like a natural progression for Steve."

Morgan insisted that the change was amicable and not driven by a lack of satisfaction with Charles Morgan's performance, as had been rumoured. 

Nick Baker, sales manager at the Morgan Motor Company, said, "Charles will remain the figurehead of Morgan. His role is now to focus on opening doors and creating the market."

well run family business, charismatic and successful third generation boss - and greedy investors playing the short game rather than the long one. Probably looking for an exit and windfall. Jesus the people who get involved in the motor business in the UK make me sick. I remember meeting Peter Morgan shortly after he'd sold a +8 to Bridget Bardot. Never saw a man so happy! Don't know Charles but he seems to have shared his father's enthusiasm but been unafraid to move the company on. Hope this sin't the beginning of the end.

i don't think he's a natural born (if there is such a thing) businessman like his father. However, ironically in recent photo's of the factory operation, one captures the museum (his fathers office) with a copy of 'The Troubleshooter' by Sir John Harvey-Jones, the ex. ICI grandee, famed for taming and turnaround the spiralling conglomerate. Back then in 1989, he urged Morgan to adopt new practices and modernise if it were to survive. Otherwise predicting the demise of this iconic brand over the next ten years. His tenure has not been without hiccup. The Aero has not been the success that had been expected. However, the 3 wheeler's order book has swelled to epic proportions in the states dispite issues with emissions and faulty suspension arms. All luxury, niche car companies employ savile row suited, swashbuckling individuals to go out and court/charm elements of new and emerging markets, Richard Charlesworth at Bentley Motors is a fine example. These markets need alternative products which represent and appeal to the zenith of individuality to capitalise on their low volumes high margin (one would hope!) business model. Charles is probably as 'blue blood' to the core, and at his time in life, represents an excellent voyage of discovery attacking robust opportunities within the Bric's and the Americas. I don't think his talents are well utilising pondering the elasticity in Asset turns or production optimize.

reason that the Harvey Jones piece was on the wall was because his tv piece was widely regarded, both at the time and subsequently, as absolute bollocks don't you? They left it there to demonstrate that wise-ass commentators and investors would never understand that a small, family run business survives by the law of supply and demand. Which Morgan has done for a Century. I'm reminded of the demise of Marconi - a wonderful British company which was attacked by vultures of the CITY for doing nothing with the millions and millions it had on deposit with banks. That "cautious" management team was dismantled by the speculators who had bought into it. Resul? Marconi went bankrupt and disappeared and the Marconi Building on the Aldwych is now an hotel. Run by a Spanish company.

People like Lord Wienstock are very few and far between. Not to be confused with the asset stripping generation of Lord Hull or Hanson.

Not quite sure how Twitter is supposed to be read, but Charles Morgan's Twitter site says "  I am not stepping down, aside or going anywhere!". So quite how this relates to the Autocar Story, I'm not sure ?

I new Charles from his previous incarnation as an ITN News cameraman. He was highly regarded both in his job and as a thoroughly decent man.

.....his family & family trusts. As one GM Excec once said, at some time there will be 3 car companies, VW Group, Toyota Group and Morgan.

i mean't to say Lord White of Hull. Apologises. Lionel Wienstock was the person credited with building Marconi into the company that it once was. George Simpson plundered his legacy.
