Marion Berlier, Nissan Motor
HR director, Nissan Sunderland and regional manufacturing AMIEO
Marion Berlier was promoted in 2025 to oversee staffing at Nissan’s Sunderland plant along with manufacturing facilities in the broader region that encompasses Africa, the Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania. She moved to her current UK-based position following a spell as head of global talent management at Nissan’s HQ in Yokohama, Japan, which she secured in 2023 after excelling in a role where she oversaw staff development, training and wellbeing in Nissan’s AMIEO region. Before that, Berlier was in charge of staffing at Nissan’s development centre in Cranfield, Bedfordshire. She came to Nissan from Lego in 2018, which she joined in 2009 in the UK and rose to the position of senior HR director.

Sharon Ashcroft, TrustFord

HR director
Sharon Ashcroft has led HR at this Ford-owned dealer group since 2013, having joined in 2005 as human resources manager. To give a sense of the scale of her task, TrustFord operates more than 60 dealerships and 14 parts sites in the UK and its employees total nearly 3000. The majority are happy too. According to employment survey company Great Place to Work, 78% of employees at TrustFord say it is a great place to work, compared with 54% of employees at a typical UK-based company. Ashcroft also sits on the member board of trustees for automotive industry charity Ben.

Lisa Masters, Stellantis UK

Lisa Masters has overseen the entirety of Stellantis’s HR operations in the UK since 2024, including its head office, the Ellesmere Port plant and the nearby parts distribution centre. Before taking up this position, Masters was head of HR for the group, moving over from her previous role as head of HR for the Ellesmere Port facility in 2022. She joined the group in 2014 as zone HR manager under the group’s previous name of PSA Peugeot-Citroën, before becoming head of HR for the Robins & Day company-owned dealer group. In her current role, Masters oversaw the management of personnel during the closure of the Luton van-making facility.

Lisa Rowles, Horiba MIRA

Lisa Rowles heads up the HR functions of the UK-based Japanese-owned automotive testing facility, where she has worked for the past 25 years. Since 2024, she has also served as the global HR strategy leader for Horiba, spanning 50 companies in 29 countries. She joined the firm in 1995 from a recruitment consultant and has risen through the ranks, including heading up security for the company’s facility and global HR functions. In 2013, Rowles launched the MIRA Academy for training and sits on the board for the MIRA Technology Institute. As part of that, she chairs the AIRTO (Association for Innovation, Research and Technology Organisations) HR Interest Group, a UK cross-industry group of HR professionals in the innovation, research and technology sector. She also set up the Horiba MIRA People Awards.

Maxine Bonwick, Horse

Maxine Bonwick joined the engine manufacturer, a joint venture between Renault and Geely, in 2024 to help streamline the young company, reporting to Horse HR head Juan Ferrara. She moved from the Renault Group, where she had been HR director and board member for the UK operations since 2021. A former Autocar Great Women Rising Star, Bonwick joined from the Volkswagen Group, where she started in 2018 as an HR business partner for Audi, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and Group Commercial Services. She moved to Volkswagen from tech firm Ingram Micro, returning to the motor industry five years after leaving her graduate job in 2010 with Enterprise Rent-a-Car.

Rachael Edwards is Mercedes-Benz’s HR representative at board level in the UK, a job she has held since 2015. She was hired by the company in 2009 from Woolworths, which she had joined out of university and where she rose to divisional HR manager. Edwards graduated from the University of Derby in 2002 with a degree in human resources management.

Tracey Newton looks after a staff of around 2000 at this group comprising around 50 dealers. A member of the JCT600 board, Newton helped to establish the annual JCT600 Heroes Awards in 2025 to celebrate staff members across 11 categories, including technician of the year. Newton joined the company in 2022 from the Yorkshire Building Society, becoming a board member in 2023. Prior to that, she worked at Manchester Airports Group and Arla Foods, where she was head of rewards.

Sian Hall, Lithia UK

Sian Hall oversees the needs of more than 5000 staff at the UK arm of US dealer group Lithia & Driveway, which bought out Pendragon in 2024 and now has around 160 dealer outlets branded as either Evans Halshaw or Stratstone. Hall started working at Pendragon in 2016 as head of resourcing and talent after moving from the Morrisons supermarket group and was promoted to talent director. She was elevated to her current role soon after the Lithia acquisition. Her first job was HR administrator for Rocco Forte hotels in 2003.

Lynne McBurney oversees HR at the dealer group after joining the company in 2005 as an HR advisor and moving up through the ranks as senior HR advisor, HR operations manager and group HR manager. The job is one of the largest in the UK automotive industry given the size of the group, which has over 11,500 employees working at more than 200 dealers and 160 service centres, along with various other connected businesses, including car auctions.

Clare Booth, Volkswagen Group UK

Clare Booth has been responsible for HR at the Volkswagen Group in the UK since 2025 after moving from the UK arm of Volkswagen-owned truck maker Scania, where she served as director of people for five years. She took over the role from Penny Weatherup, a former finalist in the Autocar Great Women awards. Booth made her mark in the automotive industry first at Mercedes-Benz in the UK, which she joined in 2011 from BT, starting in the Mercedes-Benz financial services division before moving to cars. She left as head of reward and people services in 2020.

Nicola Nevill, Yasa

Nicola Nevill now oversees HR functions at the innovative UK-based electric motor developer, which is owned by Mercedes-Benz, after moving to the company in 2025. Prior to joining Yasa, Nevill spent more than two decades at Williams Racing, where she held senior leadership roles, including HR director and director of business growth and people for its engineering venture, Williams Grand Prix Technologies. Prior to that, she worked for Thames Valley Police. Nevill is currently studying for a master’s degree in coaching for behavioural change at Henley Business School.
