Pricing and specification details released for new Peugeot 308 hatchback; set to cost more than a Focus but feature better equipment levels

Peugeot has announced that its new Peugeot 308 hatchback is available to order now, with prices starting from £14,495.

The trim levels for the new model, which is hoped to help make the manufacturer a more credible premium brand, have also been confirmed.

Buyers will be able to pick from Access, Active, Allure and range-topping Feline trims. Entry-level £14,495 Access models include air-con, remote central locking, cruise control, a speed limiter, DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.

Active versions, costing upwards of £17,145, add a large 9.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, dual-zone climate control, 16-inch alloys, an electronic handbrake and rear parking sensors.

Peugeot 308s in Allure specification, starting at £18,585, improve upon Active models further with full LED headlamps, 17-inch alloys, a reversing camera and front parking sensors.

Range-topping £20,995 Feline models feature 18-inch alloys, a panoramic glass roof, sports seats trimmed in Alcantara and a Driver Assistance Pack that includes advanced features like adaptive cruise control and an emergency braking system.

Five engine options will be offered, including a 1.6-litre HDi 120 that emits 82g/km of CO2. A 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine will also be launched in spring 2014, in 110bhp or 130bhp outputs.

Rivals like the Ford Focus, in entry-level Studio specification, start from a lower £13,995 but don't feature Bluetooth, cruise control, a speed limiter or DAB radio, unlike the equivalent Active-specification Peugeot.

Customer deliveries are expected to begin on 4 January 2014.

Peugeot does not need a grill, vw doing well without one. ever since they tried to go walter da silva audi grill, it has only got worse and as the grill got smaller the cars started to look better. this 308 however looks good except for the slightly disappointing front. that steering wheel did prompt me to check my screen resolution settings

NEW 308

The instruments have a look of President Hollande - the downward slope round the eyes. How many times have we heard about enhanced quality? Renault tried it years ago, Citroen have, Peugeot the same.

French cars virtually always have real character, a virtue the manufacturers seem to forget in their efforts to seem German.

Decent

If you don't do serious miles, then the 130hp 1.2L turbo looks a winner. Even the automatic in the top range spec is just shy of £20k list, which is pretty competitive. The depth of technology/gadgets available at that price point is also a highlight.

Price will look even better with some customary discount applied ...
