Luxury model's chunky switchgear — designed to be operated by a gloved hand — has been significantly refined

The interior styling of the all-new 2013 Range Rover 4 has been revealed in this spy picture.

While the basic design themes remain the same, the wooden stanchions that supported the centre console have been truncated and turned into aluminium.

But the chunky switchgear of the original — designed to be operated by a gloved hand — has been significantly refined.

The TFT instrument panel and the iPad-style console screen are necessary advances, but the rest of the redesign seems to centre on giving the cabin more of an executive-car feel.

The fourth-generation Range Rover is here to be judged as a luxury car as much as it is a 4x4

Design, reliability...

I do understand some of the comments above regarding how the RR should lead the other models (i.e. the RR should not take design cues from the Evoque)...but I'm not that bothered about it because it's still a good design and basically it's just a timing issue - if the RR was launched with the exact thing first and the Evoque came later, then it wouldn't matter. That said, I do prefer the previous model's dash design, but I'll wait to see the end result before judging on that.

What really concerns me are 2 things - (1) design (both the exterior and the interior design were and still are very good and so they need to be extra careful not to ruin them, especially with any blingy LEDs at the front...) and (2) reliability. Unfortunately this latter aspect is still a-bit of a weak point and I wouldn't have minded - since the design was so good in the first place - if they had kept the exact same design and just focused on making the mechanicals/electrics tougher.

I have to agree with some of

I have to agree with some of the comments above. It seems wrong that the Range Rover is now following the lower models in interior design, when before it would have been the trendsetter.

I also don't quite get the "the redesign seems to centre on giving the cabin more of an executive-car feel" comment. From experience the last model surpassed "executive-car feel" so a step towards that is surely a downwards one?
