The first wet race since 2014 kept things edgy for the Croft round of the BTCC

If you missed the BTCC action at Croft, our highlights of rounds 13, 14 and 15 will help you catch up.

1 In the first race, Silverline Subaru BMR Racing took its first one-two finish, courtesy of Colin ‘King of Croft’ Turkington and Jason Plato.

2 MG Racing RCIB Insurance’s Ashley Sutton claimed his first podium finish after early front-runner Daniel Lloyd ended his race after a shunt into the gravel.

3 A series of scuffles brought three safety car interventions but Turkington took masterful advantage of them, despite Plato’s persistent pressure from start to finish.

4 In the second race, Team IHG Rewards Club driver Rob Collard slingshotted his BMW 125i M Sport from fourth place to a remarkable win, sneaking past the Subaru duo and his team-mate Jack Goff.

5 Plato and Turkington continued Subaru’s success at Croft, despite a squabble that resulted in a wide slide for both cars on lap four. The two Subarus ended up sandwiched between the two IHG Rewards Club BMWs.

6 In race three, Sutton took his maiden BTCC win for his second podium finish. The wet weather left the MG Racing RCIB Insurance driver and his MG 6 unfazed, as Turkington and Plato fell to seventh and 10th respectively.

7 Silverline Subaru BMR Racing’s losses were current leader Sam Tordoff (Team JCT600 Racing with GardX) and Tom Ingram’s (Speedworks Motorsport) gains, as the previously eighth and seventh-placed finishers took second and third places in the final heat.

8 The wet weather added drama to the final heat at Croft, with MG’s Sutton and Cook having big slides, and the decision of Gordon Shedden and Mat Jackson not to ditch the slicks came back to haunt them. Sheddon finally came home in 22nd place and Jackson failed to finish.Sutton2

Tordoff increases his title lead over the pack with 168 points, and Rob Collard’s 156 points squeeze him between the leader and former second place Matt Neal, who is on 153 points. A 22-point gap separates fourth-place Andrew Jordan from Neal.

Rounds 16, 17 and 18 of the 2016 BTCC season will take place at Snetterton on 30 and 31 July.
