Fire concerns prompt worldwide recall

Honda has announced it is recalling 172,000 Jazz models in Britain after a fire broke out in one of the superminis in South Africa last year, killing a child.

All the Honda Jazz models recalled will have the master power window switch examined. Owners of the relevant cars will be contacted by Honda.

Honda says that if it is exposed to large amounts of water, for example if the window is left open frequently or for long periods in heavy rain, the switch can malfunction, potentially causing a fire.

Although there have been no reported cases of this happening in the UK, all recalled cars will be fitted with a waterproof skirt to prevent water entering the unit.

Globally, 646,000 Honda Jazz models are affected.

Re: Honda Jazz recall issued

I guess this incident explains why Japanese cars and Honda in particular are so reliable - because they react to every single problem no matter how insignificant. You can bet that from now on, every single Honda electric window will work perfectly even when the whole assembly is drenched in water.

It also partly explains why cars keep getting heavier, because this kind of belt and braces approach applied to every single component inevitably adds weight.

Kind of makes you question what was wrong with good old fashioned wind up windows, doesn't it.

Surely if water makes the switch short-out then the fuse should blow before the car catches fire ?

Hmm my Honda hasn't caught fire yet, I will probably test it by pointing a pressure washer at the window switch for a while, if it starts smoking there could be compensation in it, anyone know the number of Lawyers4You?

which sadly is the real reason Honda are having to react, I doubt if a Jazz window switch is any less or more water resistant than that of any other car, its just after the sad event with the death not reacting will leave them exposed to all kinds of things.
