The new M3, Geneva motor show and one of the loudest cars on the road
24 December 2007

The big news of March 2007 was the Geneva motor show. One of the most important shows in the calendar brought us first glimpse of the new Maserati GranTurismo, Bentley Azure coupé, Renault Twingo and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. The most significant concept to appear at Geneva 2007 turned out to be the Vauxhall Gran Turismo Coupe Concept, which we now know hinted at the 2008 Insignia saloon.Meanwhile, the first official images and details of the most highly anticipated BMW for years were released. The new M3 had arrived. And that wasn't the only big news at BMW, with the 3-series under pressure from the new Mercedes C-Class.Our road testers tried out the new Peugeot 207 CC, to find that it had successfully moved the game on from its popular predecessor, representing "one of the best small cabrios you can buy."As if that weren't enough milestones for one month, news of the new Fiat 500 came to light, ProDrive bought Aston Martin and rumours of the lightweight Ferrari F430 that would become the 430 Scuderia began to circulate.Towards the end of the month, the Gallardo Superleggera had made its way onto the roads, so we finished March behind the wheel of one of the loudest cars in production.

A satisfying rework of the X3 that usefully improves its handling, cabin finish, space and connectivity to make this BMW a class front-runner again
