New hydrogen fuel-cell powered concept to lead Toyota's Tokyo lineup, set to launch in 2015

Toyota has showcased a production version of its FCV concept at the Tokyo motor show.

The new model previews Toyota's work with hydrogen fuel cell technology, and is already planned for launch in 2015. The car has a reported range of at least 300 miles on a full tank, and has a refuelling time of three minutes.

The exterior shape of the FCV is incredibly aerodynamic to improve drag, while the front end has large air intakes. Numerous references to water have been incorporated into its design, says Toyota, a reminder of the only waste product to be produced by hydrogen-powered vehicles. The FCV is designed to carry four people. Its engine has a maximum output of 134bhp.

It measures 4870mm long, by 1810mm wide with a height of 1535mm and a wheelbase of 2780mm. Read Autocar's first drive in a prototype of the FCV here.
