The Jaguar XF Sportbrake will cost from £31,940 when it goes on sale at the end of the year after its UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The model will also mark the introduction of new variants of the 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel.
The PSA-derived unit will be offered in 160 and 197bhp outputs, and will replace the current 187bhp engine. Both models share the same CO2 rating of 135 or 139g/km, depending on spec, and fuel economy of 55.4mpg.
A 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine producing either 237 or 271bhp will also be available, but the saloon’s new 335bhp supercharged V6 petrol unit will not be offered at launch.
The saloon’s eight-speed automatic gearbox and stop-start are standard on all models. Jaguar claims these changes reduce emissions by up to six per cent.
Jaguar’s new 3.0-litre supercharged V6 is currently the most potent engine in the standard XF’s line-up. The engine, which will be shared with the Jaguar F-Type, replaces the naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 and is capable of powering the XF saloon to 62mph in 5.7sec. Jaguar claims combined fuel consumption of 30mpg on the combined cycle with emissions of 224g/km.
Trim grades follow the current XF saloon, comprising SE Business, Luxury, Sport, Premium Luxury and Portfolio.
The Jaguar XFR saloon can now be specified with a Speed Pack, which raises the top speed to 174bhp, and equipped with revised engine and gearbox settings, a front splitter and new rear wing.

PSA - No way!
Looks a very attractive and desirable car indeed - at least as a 3.0 litre. As others have commented, Jaguar should have produced this variant of the XF long ago. (Some of us just can't manage with a saloon!).
There is a snag, though. I can't buy used cars, and the 2.2 litre diesel is just about affordable, but there is no way that I'm going to consider one with a PSA engine. Yes, I know that all manufacturers buy in bits from third parties. I can live with outsourcing the electrics and such, but the engine is the heart of the car. PSA - No way!

You deserved to be flamed for a comment like that! The 2.2 litre PSA diesel engine (developed in partnership with Ford and tweaked by Jaguar engineers) is one of the finest diesel engines in the world. And don't forget that PSA have been leading in diesel technology for years now. For most people the 2.2 D is the sweet spot in the XF range and both What Car? and AutoExpress recommend this engine.

I think that if you check the performance figures, MPG stats and driver reviews that you will find that it is BMW who have been "leading in diesel technology for years now."
Not exactly! Auto Express likes it (But then, they like Audis, so what do they know) but What Car don't feel as positive as you make out.

What a silly comment, Every engine JLR use have their roots with either Ford or PSA or are built by Ford for Jaguar.
The current 3.0 V6 that Jaguar use in some markets is a Ford engine, that was originally designed by Porshe, developed by Cosworth and used by Ford in the Mondeo ST220, Fords engineers then stuck 2 of them together and put it in an Aston Martin.
The 1.6 turbo petrol engine currently used in the BWM MINI was designed in conjunction with PSA and is used in the various PSA products as well.
The 3.0 Diesel used by JLR is also a Ford/PSA/Jaguar design.
And lets be honest most Audis are just a VW in a posh expensive frock.

This is a great addition, what a shame it has taken them 4 years to produce. We can't be that far from replacing the entire range. An 'Allroad' edition would also be fantastic.
